What is Prosper McDowell?

Prosper McDowell is a non-profit group (currently working on our 501c3 status) dedicated to finding solutions to make our community prosper once again. Our team is made up of community members committed to taking action and creating positive change.

One of the steps of Prosper McDowell is to coordinate groups working toward the same goals. We can get so much more done if we all pool our knowledge and experience.

It is time for all of us to come together and BE the solution. Fixing McDowell isn't possible with just one person, it isn't possible with a small group... fixing McDowell will take all of us coming together. Please reach out - you will love working with a group of like-minded people striving to make our wonderful county truly PROSPER!

Hello! I'm Delegate David Green. I started Prosper McDowell because I recognize that I cannot address all the challenges we face in McDowell County on my own. One of our greatest assets is our people that have a huge heart and determination. McDowell County's glory days are no longer behind us - they are up ahead as we all work together. Together we can make McDowell Prosper Again!!

Listening Sessions

In order for us to get a holistic picture of the issues McDowell County is facing, as well as finding solutions to our problems - we want to get everyone's input. We are holding 18 listening sessions throughout the county.

Category 1: Fundamental Needs

Water, Food, Transportation, Housing

Category 2: Economic Needs

Jobs, Business (Stores, Restaurants, Attractions), Industry

Services and Facilities, Drug Addition, Mental Health, EMS Services

Category 3: Healthcare Needs

Category 4: Children's Needs

Education, Nutrition, Activities, Childcare, Special Needs Care

Meals, Home Repair, Making Ends Meet, Socialization, Access to Quality Food

Category 5: Senior's Needs

We are partnering with West Virginia State University to hold listening sessions in many different communities around McDowell County to hear from YOU the challenges that affect YOUR life. We want to get your thoughts about everything from education to health, from economic development to caring for our elders, water, food sources, litter, drug rehab centers - no subject is off limits.

We do ask that everyone be respectful of others' opinions and time. We do not want this to be a gripe fest or a finger pointing session. We want to have constructive conversations that will help move McDowell County in a positive direction.
